Medical Malpractice Cases in PA

Rosen Louik and Perry has an outstanding record in achieving just and fair results for our clients. For more than 30 years, we have specialized in medical malpractice cases. Each case is different with a very unique set of facts. Our trial experience helps us prove claims on our client’s behalf. The following are samples of some our successful Pittsburgh medical malpractice cases.

Patient dies after post-surgery conditions left untreated

After undergoing a thyroid procedure, the patient’s condition deteriorated. However, the post-operative staff did not respond to the post-surgery complications. The patient went into cardiac arrest and later died. The condition could have been treated if it had been properly diagnosed and treated post-surgery following professional standards of care. This Pittsburgh medical malpractice case brought by our firm on behalf of the patient’s family was settled for $950,000.

Failure to monitor patient leads to stroke

Doctors prescribed anti-coagulation for our client to reduce the risk of blood clots after a procedure. The physicians did not monitor the patient after prescribing the drug, and the patient reached a dangerous level of anti-coagulation, eventually suffering a stroke. With proper monitoring, the risk of a stroke can be avoided. Our firm reached a $1,400,000 settlement for our client.

Delay in diagnosis results in complications

Our client was suffering from chest pains and sought medical care from a physician. The client had a family history of lung cancer and was concerned. The physician took a chest x-ray, but did not catch the cancerous lesion on the patient’s lungs. The patient suffered an additional 15 months before a different physician took another x-ray and found the lesion, which confirmed Stage III lung cancer. The cancer had been present on the earlier x-ray. Our client had to undergo aggressive radiation and chemotherapy as a result of the delay in diagnosis. Unfortunately, he suffered additional complications. The timely diagnosis would have allowed our client to seek treatment earlier, reducing his risk of complications. Our attorneys obtained a $1,200,000 settlement in this Pennsylvania medical malpractice case.

Unnecessary labor complications leave infant severely injured

A mother was induced into labor by her physician, but after several hours the attempt was unsuccessful. The labor was prolonged, and the baby was in distress. During the extended labor, the baby was deprived of oxygen, and after delivery, suffered multi-system organ failure. The doctor’s failed to perform a C-section despite the mother’s extended labor and the real possibility of injury to the child. These risks can be mitigated by following medical standards, including the timely use of a C-section. The child is severely disabled and will require specialized care. We obtained a settlement for $2,900,000 on behalf our client’s family.

Patient dies after receiving improper care in emergency room

An asthma sufferer went to the emergency room after suffering an acute asthma attack. He was administered a breathing treatment, but it was ineffective in stopping the attack and restoring normal breathing. His wife requested assistance from a physician several times. A physician eventually returned, but did not prescribe any further treatment, including an intubation, to restore normal breathing. Within 50 minutes, the man had died. An intubation could have alleviated the breathing issues. Our firm reached a $1,860,000 settlement on behalf of patient’s wife in this malpractice case.
